What Members Thought
I have very mixed feelings about this book. It is a genre I am drawn to over and over. The plot is as compelling, and shocking as any other story set in the same time period. It was because of the plot, and the characters that I kept going. Ordinarily a book with all that going for it wouldn't have taken me almost a year to finish, I've finished similar books in a day or so in the past. This was a beautiful story. It got better and better as it went along, and I was crying at the end. I'd definitely recommend it.

This heartbreaking book about two sisters in wartime had me quite angry after reading it. I was really frustrated with the narrator--it just really irks me when people don't share their cultural heritage or language with their children! Some other plot elements bothered me, but this was still a good, thought-provoking read. And of course they are making a movie! I think I need to take a break from WWII novels for a while--my emotions need to simmer :)

I didn’t start enjoying this book until I got halfway through it. I was ready to give up on it and then Hannah finally grabbed me.
It was an exciting read for me after that and had me crying at the end. I’m glad I didn’t give up on it.
