I enjoyed this very much even though historical fiction is not something I usually read. There were times when I thought it was a bit too wordy/lengthy but overall a definitely good story.

First book of the year and it is a good one. I had too much build up unfortunately so I was let down a little. Great writing in my view. Unique and well developed characters even the bad guys. Great history and knowledge such as art, sea creatures, Jules Verne, radios. Once again, pleased to be reading about this time period since it is my mom and dad's youth. What a terrible thing war (fighting) is.

very good read. I don't think I'll ever reread it, however. It has some unsavory passages due to the context (WWII) but it is not excessive. loved the storytelling. ...more
