It took me a while to get into this book after not having read it for years and years. I really liked it--Heathcliff totally creeps me out and the original Catherin is ridiculous, but I love the Catherine/Hareton ending.

Something about this story just sucks you right in! I've always supposed I must have read it, or like my prejudice against Jane Austen (before I actually read anything by her) I supposed it was a dreary romance and I wouldn't like it. Well, I loved it. Melodramatic? Yes. Over the top? Yes. But so evocative of the Yorkshire landscape, and of the time in which this is set. I wouldn't call it a romance at all. This is not a great love story, it's a domestic violence charge waiting to happen. I'm glad that I read it and it generated lots of talk at my book group, but I was so not enthralled by it. There are other classics and other romances that would be more worth your time.
