What Members Thought

I'm not even sure how to review this book. It's a WWII book of course, so it is filled with all the awfulness of that. Liesel, the main character is a young girl becoming a teenager in Germany during WWII. She experiences a lot of the traumas of the teen years, but then all the added trauma of a war, of being orphaned, of losing her brother, and on and on.

I have been waiting to read this book for a couple of years, since I was waaay down on the hold list on my digital library--finally got to read it this past week and it was very much worth the wait. I decided to read this book after hearing rave reviews. I started reading it and was really put off by the narrator at first. I kept pushing through and fell in love with the characters. The narrator's random interjections actually became fun and in the end, I was so emotionally wrapped up with the characters, I was on the verge of tears when tragedy struck.
I don't want to give too much away, but I definitely recommend everyone read this book. It isn't very often we get to see the German civili ...more
