What a ride....

My name is Sunflower and I once owned a Commodore 64. This is not something one would ordinarily admit outside of a support group, but in the context of this book, it doesn't seem so bad. I may have lived through the 80's, but I didn't resonate with many of the references in this book and it doesn't really affect the enjoyment of the story.

A lot of the buzz about this book mentions all the pop culture references from the 1980's, and that is certainly part of its appeal. However, I think the escapist value of the story transcends those aspects -- you don't have to be a former Dungeons & Dragons player who spent every quarter you ever had on arcade games to like this book. [Edited in 2016 to add that the audio version with Wil Wheaton is wonderful!]
