Ove (a Swedish name pronounced eww-vuh) is a very grumpy old man determined to finish a task (can’t say what, spoilers) and keeps getting interrupted. He has nicknames for all the neighbors he dislikes, and does a patrol each morning to make sure all the rules are being followed in the neighborhood. There are flashbacks to what made him the way he is, the author weaves those into the present day happenings, and it makes him lovable to the reader.
