What a beautiful story, even though it was hard to read at times.
It was also beautifully written. This was as close to a perfect book as I have read, maybe ever. Having been in a writing workshop for 10+ years, I am very, very picky about writing. What a fantastic - yet depressing - novel. It was so moving and gritty as it showed life in Afghanistan. Watching the main character, Amir, grow up and struggle through his own issues, and then to witness a terrible crime and hold on to that guilt for years was very sad. The reader is taken along as he and his father flee from Afghanistan and then, when he returns to Afghanistan years later, the reader is shown the aftermath of what was once his home as he tries to follow through with a promise
