I found this book to the best of the three because the first was the introduction and way, and the third is the how, this is the why behind the whole trilogy.
When I finally started powering through this book, I wanted to put it down so many times. When I would go to bed at night I wanted to not read it, but found myself picking it up to read just a few pages and ending up reading several chapters. This is not because it isn't an excellent book. It IS and excellent book. Robin Hobb is an excellent writer. BUT, (view spoiler)

Most of this book was pretty slow, but as was the case with Assassin's Apprentice, the last 50 pages or so were filled with non-stop action. I really didn't predict that ending, and I can't wait to see what Fitz does next. I also loved Nighteyes; he was one of my favorites. This is an excellent series.
