You know when you read a book and you just can't seem to care about the characters or the plot? Dreamology by Lucy Keating was, unfortunately, that for me.

Before I read it, I had seen the book around a lot and decided I wanted to read it. The whole concept of a girl dreaming about someone and then seeing them in real life seemed really intriguing and I was looking forward to reading it. I'm disappointed I didn't like Dreamology.

First of all, Alice, the main character, drove me nuts. She was imm You know when you read a book and you just can't seem to care about the characters or the plot? Dreamology by Lucy Keating was, unfortunately, that for me.

Before I read it, I had seen the book around a lot and decided I wanted to read it. The whole concept of a girl dreaming about someone and then seeing them in real life seemed really intriguing and I was looking forward to reading it. I'm disappointed I didn't like Dreamology.

First of all, Alice, the main character, drove me nuts. She was immature and childish, and made everything super dramatic. She pursued a boy despite him having a girlfriend and then would claim she wasn't the type of girl who would steal someone's boyfriend. When she literally did that. And didn't even feel guilty about it. She would get upset when this boy wouldn't be with her and it was quite unfair on him. Alice's and the boy, Max's, relationship was so inconsistent as well. One minute, he'd be telling Alice he couldn't be with her because he had a girlfriend, then the next he would be kissing her even though he had a girlfriend. Then he would give her the cold shoulder, she'd throw a tantrum, and it would happen all over again. And once their sorted things out and Max broke up with his girlfriend, he still told Alice he didn't want to be with her. Then the next minute, he was confessing his undying love for her. Literally.

Secondly, the whole two-people-who-have-been-dreaming-about-each-other-for-their-whole-lives-meet-in-real-life-followed-by-mystery-and-intrigue plot kind of fell flat. It all felt like a big joke to me and nothing really happened. Alice and Max both find out that they went to a Centre for Dream Discovery as children to help with their nightmares and somehow ended up dreaming about each other until they start not being able to tell reality from their dreams. They underwent a few tests by the nutcase Doctor who worked at this place and then found out they were going to go insane if something wasn't fixed. It was all so dramatic and the whole problem was fixed in a matter of seconds (or, a few pages, to be specific). It was a little disappointing because I was expecting more. The plot had so much potential but Keating just didn't pull it off.

Overall, I did not like Dreamology. Pity the cover is absolutely stunning! ...more
