Well this was a rollercoaster of a ride. I didn't felt connected to Aelin. I actually prefer Aelin and Rowan being friends instead of lovers. But this 5th book in a series so I can't give away much but I really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the last books. (ACOTAR is still my favourite series by her) ...more

This book was full of fun and action. It was nonstop from start to and finish! And that ending.... INSANE. Talk about the cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers.

What just happened?!?! All of my characters just 180 in attitude and life choices?? I was never an Aelin fan before but now.. pshh, ugh, nope. I was not a Rowan fan before now, but Aelin really got on my nerves in this book. Why did she act so immature in this book? What happened to the strong independent woman of books 1-3? Why is she keeping everything a secret?? They are literally a family now; nothing has to be a secret. Yet that’s supposed to add to the plot and all it did was frustrate me ...more

so i’ve sat on my initial feelings about this book for a few days now and i think it’s safe to say that those feelings hold true. sooooo…i’m sad to say it, but i think i’m outgrowing this series. i mean, it’s a fun, fluffy fantasy read, but it’s not the beautiful, soul-shattering, world shaking, be-all-end-all pinnacle of YA fantasy that i used to think it was. i had fun reading about aelin & co., but, to be honest, well,…i feel like this book wasn’t written very well. like, at all. my 3/5 stars
so i’ve sat on my initial feelings about this book for a few days now and i think it’s safe to say that those feelings hold true. sooooo…i’m sad to say it, but i think i’m outgrowing this series. i mean, it’s a fun, fluffy fantasy read, but it’s not the beautiful, soul-shattering, world shaking, be-all-end-all pinnacle of YA fantasy that i used to think it was. i had fun reading about aelin & co., but, to be honest, well,…i feel like this book wasn’t written very well. like, at all. my issues were as follows:

▪ the plot only progressed in the last 10-15% of the book. almost all of the book was consumed by aelin & co. hanging out or running around but essentially doing “magical busy work.” BUT THE PLOT WASN’T MOVING! i’m all for seeing your favorite characters being their fabulous selves and all, but they can do so while the story moves along.

▪ so, let’s talk about sex ~~baby~~. specifically, let’s talk about how SJM 100% uses it as a lazy excuse for relationship development. here’s the thing: yes, some relationships are purely sexual and there’s nothing wrong with that, BUT! a romantic relationship, while it has sexual components and thus can involve a lot of sexuality, does not revolve solely around sex, but rather around personal chemistry, working together, and growing and developing together. did any of the couples do that? ha, NO! instead it was sex sex sex sex “we’re so in love!” it was poor writing and a lazy excuse for the personal and romantic development of characters.

▪ speaking of sex, this book waaaaaaaaay overdid it with how horny aelin and rowan were. they would be in the middle of life threatening situations and be thinking about how much they wanted to bang each other. and that's not even an exaggeration. look, i enjoy sex and, like i said, there's nothing wrong with sexuality or relationships with a heavy sex component, but i don't care how horny you are all the gosh dang time, there is NO WAY you'd be thinking about sex when your life is in danger.

▪ MOVING ON! so has aelin always been this annoying??? she was so obnoxiously arrogant and cocky and instead of making that a flaw, or giving her another flaw, sjm was like "hahaha nope! aelin's cocky and arrogant because she's perfect in every way and perfect at everything!" it not only was crappy character development (read: no character development), it also just made aelin completely insufferable!

anyhoo, that's it for this ranty review. i know it seems like i hate this book/series and i'm just trashing it, but i really did have a fun time reading empire of storms and i do believe that there's value in that. for what it's worth, i will probably finish out the series. ...more

This was a great installment in the Throne of Glass series. The books keep getting better and better. I felt so many emotions and was surprised by most of the plot twist.

If you haven't read the novellas I recommend reading them prior to reading Empire of Storms. I can't imagine my reading experience without them.

I loved how all the pieces to the puzzle fit together. The plot of this series was weaved together so intricately.
