**3rd reread update**
I fall more in love with this story everytime I revisit Henrietta.

“Fate," Blue replied, glowering at her mother, "is a very weighty word to throw around before breakfast.”

I can’t believe that I like this book more each time I read it! For those of you who don’t know, I tried reading this book 4 different times before I finished it the first time. I have to say, listening to The Raven Boys on audio is the best way yet! The

I normally write a summary/plot description for books when I review them if its the first in a series, but I honestly can't even begin to describe this. It's just a very strange book with magic and psychics and private school boys.

I've heard a lot of people talking about The Raven Cycle and whilst I enjoyed this first instalment I felt a slight bit disappointed as this felt like more of a set up for the rest of the books. Not that that's a bad thing but it stopped it being something I truly love

First of all I want to heave this book at anyone who unequivocally declares that all YA is silly and badly written, because this is one of the most gorgeously written books I've ever read. Let me tell you, it's really, really hard to write urban fantasy and not have it sound ridiculous, but Stiefvater actually manages to make everything seem elegant and believable. I just. I love her writing so much. And the atmosphere. HOO BOY. Who knew that this book would actually have super creepy undertones ...more

As posted on Zezee with Books.

My thoughts:

I enjoyed this story from beginning to end. It starts out slow and takes its time building to its climax. During the slow beginning, Steifvater acclimates you to the characters, their troubles and motivations, as well as the setting, which has an eerie atmosphere about it. Once that’s done, the story takes off. Some readers might get frustrated with this slow start, as a few readers in the Goodreads readalong group did, but it pays off.

Once the story pic

Wow! This was a great book. I am ready to read the second book. I didn't know what to expect going into the story. I have never read anything by this author and my friends had mixed feelings about this book. Major twists happened.

Dani ❤️ Perspective of a Writer
I really loved this premise. Maggie Stiefvater is a creative plotter and I love her ideas and how she puts them together. Unfortunately I am again underwhelmed by the actual writing of the story. Her descriptions are practically meaningless. Just so disappointing.

Blue's story felt rather ho-hum to me despite the intriguing details. Probably because once the Aglionby boys came into the picture the story felt distinctly more adult, at least college but in no way high school. Gansey felt like the b

Lizzy!

When we were little things, I read Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising series and nothing was ever the same. I can't remember if I found it in Bowie's library or if we read one of the books in class; all I know is I went around wide-eyed, waiting for magic and adventure and new worlds to open up and name me one of the Old Ones. (I was so

I have started this book many times, but have never made it past the first 50 pages or so. This time however, the story grabbed me and I read it in about 2 days.

This first book is a lot like the maps Gansey obsesses over; it sets a foundation and road map for the story moving forward. Each character has a trajectory now, that intersects and connects with one another. Creating a vivid and developd world where magic not only exists, but is starting to thrive. While much of the first book is setup

I really don't know what to think about this book. I feel like I would like it upon a reread. I was very confused as to what was going on the entire time. I started to enjoy the characters towards the end. I don't think this is the type of book you should read quickly. I was reading it for a readathon and think it really needs to be one of those slower reads. I definitely want to reread the book because there were things that intrigued me. ...more
