WOW! Marissa Meyer you are amazing! This was an excellent conclusion. Winter was everything I wanted. I have read so many disappointing conclusions to series but Winter was not one of them! If you have not read the Lunar Chronicles yet, what are you doing with your life? GO READ THE SERIES.

What a fantastic finish to this series!!! While all I hear is this book is so long it's 800+ pages it is totally worth it!!!

There is so much detail in this last book which is fantastic because it was definitely needed. This story is basically about the main characters invading Luna to throw Levana off her throne. As I've said before I thoroughly enjoyed all the couples so far in this book. (Scarlet and Wolf are my fav.) As I've said before I thoroughly enjoyed all the couples so far in this book. (Scarlet and Wolf are my fav.) However I was a little apprehensive about Winter's story because I'm not fond of the gentleman she's in love with and I wasn't sure how Marissa Meyer would place a story about Winter and revolution in one book. No worries were needed though because I learned so much about Winter and the revolution all in one book.

Winter is broken mentally and technically physically. As you learned in the previous books the rumors on earth is that she is broken because of Levana. She has scars on her face obviously from Levana (did I ever mention how much I despise Levana??)Winter hallucinates a lot because she refuses to use her powers against people. She also plays crazy a lot at least I think it's playing crazy... There is only one person who can talk her down from her hallucinations and he's been missing for a couple weeks. Insert Jacin whom I did not like in the book Cress at all. All he wants to do is get back to Winter to make sure he is ok. If you read Fairest the novella you would realize that Jacin was childhood friends with both Winter and Cinder.

Jacin is of course in love with Winter. You will notice throughout this book that all winter has to do is look at someone and they fall in "love" with her. Her beauty is not matched even with her scars she is still the fairest of all. Jacin is driven to protect her no matter what the cost. He shows many times in this book that protecting her is his main goal in his life. No matter who he has to stab in the back to get it done. Needless to say this does not endear me to him anymore and yet... oddly it makes me like him at the same time. I still have a love/hate relationship with Jacin's character. I understand why he is doing what he is doing... I still don't like it all the time.

All of the usual characters are back in this book. I love how Marissa Meyer rotated the book following different characters at different times. It wasn't always about Winter. The book bounces from how plans fall apart come together, people get lost and found again in different ways. There were times I wanted to hold my breath until that character came back around and I knew they were out of danger. There were a lot of times I was like she did not just do that to that character!! It was also wonderfully wrapped up at the end so that you know where the characters are going from here... ...more

As this is the 4th book in the series this will be brief.

It took me a long time to get to Winter as it is SUCH a long book, and I think it suffered from that. I enjoyed it but not to the same extent as Cinder. There was a lot of time where it just felt a bit too drawn out.

I loved the ending of this book, it tied the series together so well. As much as it's a cheesy happy ending it left me super content because when you have a series like this where there are so many characters that you start to ...more

I didn't get into The Lunar Chronicles until a while after Cinder was published. Even though friends had recommended this book to me for years, I'd never picked it up. Once I did though, I was hooked. I hadn't read any YA Sci-Fi before this series, and I loved the freshness of the world. Not to mention the great characters you can't help but love.

I didn't get into The Lunar Chronicles until a while after Cinder was published. Even though friends had recommended this book to me for years, I'd never picked it up. Once I did though, I was hooked. I hadn't read any YA Sci-Fi before this series, and I loved the freshness of the world. Not to mention the great characters you can't help but love.

Even though this book is 827 pages long, the plot moves quickly. Being a fairy tale re-telling, it is somewhat predictable, but there are enough twists to keep you guessing. Since this book features so many "main characters" and they're not always together, we end up changing perspectives pretty frequently. This, combined with the fast pace, can make it befuddling at times. Conversely, in a few places, it definitely seemed to drag. I felt like some parts of this story could've been summarized, instead of actually having the reader experience the scene.

I wish one main character could've been an ordinary Lunar. Cinder, Winter, Cress, Jacin, and Wolf are all Lunar natives...but they're all extraordinary in some way. Winter is a princess and Cinder and Cress weren't even raised on Luna. Wolf and Jacin had more normal childhoods, but we don't meet them until they're in Queen Levana's service. I want to see how a regular Lunar citizen would've lived. Oh well. I do know that in Stars Above, we have one story about Wolf as a child, so I'm looking forward to that.

Out of the female main characters, I really did not like Cress or Winter. *Covers head to keep off bookish missiles thrown by fans.* I couldn't identify very well with either one, and they were too romantic for my taste. Still, I got through both books alright and I do see myself reflected a little bit in Winter. (Does this mean I'm mad? Am I unable to identify with myself? Am I in denial!? I'm going to ponder these existential questions for a while, but please continue to read as if nothing has happened.) This next statement may also be...hmm, repellent; I wish more characters had died in the end. I guess this is a personal decision for an author doing a re-telling, regarding the number of liberties taken. Fairy tales do normally end with a "happily ever after". Without giving out too many spoilers, I will only say I kind of wanted them to lose more. Maybe I'm just a dark person who doesn't want anyone to be joyful, but if you've read Winter, what are your thoughts on the ending?

The mash-up of fairy tale re-telling and futuristic science fiction is amazing, not just in Winter but throughout the series. YallFest interview with Jenna; in this video Marissa Meyer explains, among other things, the origins of this fusion. I loved that we finally got a book set on Luna!!! Ever since Cinder, I've been extremely curious about this entire civilization built on a place currently uninhabitable. I was not completely satisfied with Winter's descriptions of Luna. The science-nerd in me wanted all the early-stages-stories and blueprints for domes and if they had to import soil, etc., etc. I would love more backstory in Stars Above, but if there isn't any, I suppose it's my job to imagine it (future fanfiction project, hmmm...).

Anyway, I enjoyed this book immensely. Even though the length of this story can be intimidating, as the last book in the series, I needed it to be so long; it gave me plenty of time to enjoy these characters and their world. To say goodbye. (Until my marathon re-read, which I have no doubt is coming soon.)
