This is a solid 3.5*

The story follows the history of a wedding dress and the women who wore it. I probably enjoyed the historical aspect of this novel most. Solid writing made it easy to become drawn into the world of Charlotte and Emily but there were a few character continuity issues that kept me from giving this a higher rating.

The story follows the history of a wedding dress and the women who wore it. I probably enjoyed the historical aspect of this novel most. Solid writing made it easy to become drawn into the world of Charlotte and Emily but there were a few character continuity issues that kept me from giving this a higher rating.

First, Charlotte is engaged to Tim, a man with strong ties to a large family-so large and so strong that his sister-in-law boldly threatens Charlotte for trying to steal Tim from his family. Without spoiling the story, I'll leave it to say that Charlotte and Tim's relationship goes through a series of issues that feel more superficial than authentic. The story does end how one would expect a story of this genre would but it feels rushed.

Emily's story draws readers back to the 1920's and this outspoken woman of the time intrigued me immediately. Unafraid to discuss the unfair treatment of women and African Americans. However, this courage seems to disappear as soon as her fiancé's unsavory behavior is made known to her. In fact, she cowers at the idea of ever leaving her fiancé, which was frustrating. Again, without spoiling-the story does eventually go in the direction it should BUT it would've been better to see Emily show her stalwart courage throughout.*Now, I'm not sure but maybe the expectation of women in this era was for them to stand down and had Emily done that from the beginning I could swallow her acquiesce a little easier but if she was so willing to approach the other touchy subjects of the time fearlessly, I expect her to do so in every part of her life.

Faith and religion are heavy throughout but that didn't bother me as I know to expect this from the author-it may bother others. There were some minor developments that could've been left out as I didn't think they added to the main plot but the subplot(s) with the other women tied in nicely overall.

The Wedding Dress is my first Rachel Hauck novel (experienced through audio book) and likely won't be my last. I'd recommend this book to those who love split time novels and romance.

l this book! There were parts of it that made me feel God's presence, which was awesome. So, why did I give it four stars? It's just a preference on my part, but I don't really care for books that tell two stories at the same time, switching back and forth between time periods.
I loved all of the characters in this book except for Emily. I just wanted to smack that girl! How many times do you have to be told? Anyway, the rest were very "human" and different from one another.

When I saw this book in a book recommendation email, I thought it would be a good read, and it was. Four women wear the same wedding dress over a period of 100 years. The twists and stories are interesting and it kept me engaged with the characters and the stories of the women who wore the dress.
