Maybe I've just read too many books with women leads who are not as vacuous as Mac is and just found her annoying.
Maybe her constant references to her "pretty tanned thighs" and other body parts just grated.
Maybe this is the "he's so gorgeous I can't stand it" male lead which broke the camel's back, so to speak.

The good: this is a tightly plotted novel that moves very quickly. The less good: the protagonist is alternately annoying and shallow.
