Not terribly good, although it was compelling enough that I had to read the whole series! The story is told in the first person, and there was a lot of over-reliance on the literary device wherein our heroine says "Little did I know as I was doing X that everything was about to change in totally shocking and ironic ways very shortly!" Also, the plot holes and revisionist history piled up as the series went on, but by that point you're rolling and willing to go with it just to get to the end. Sad ...more

Maybe I've just read too many books with women leads who are not as vacuous as Mac is and just found her annoying.
Maybe her constant references to her "pretty tanned thighs" and other body parts just grated.
Maybe this is the "he's so gorgeous I can't stand it" male lead which broke the camel's back, so to speak.
I had a very hard time with this book. It started out okay; interesting things were happening but I found that her narration, told from a future date, kind of pulled out all of the sus

moning is known as a romance author, and that's part of the reason I put this book off, though it was a freebie amazon kindle promo - I had to be in the mood for something a little trashy. this, however, was completely not that book: sex in this world can be deadly, and there's no quick flirtation before the tumble in the sheets for this girl.

MacKayla is a green-off-the-turnip-truck southern belle, with no more pressing concern than what shade of pink she's going to do her nails. she gets the p

Not sure if this is part of a series or a trilogy. Definitely more out there, waiting for the next, Bloodfever, to come out in paperback.

I LOVE Karen Marie Moning, her books are creative and fun, not to mention HOT sex scenes, and I am a very jaded and bored sex scene reader. My problem with this book is that it is written in first person. Not a big fan of that myself, but I got past it enough to want to read the second one!

I'd read some of Moning's Highlander romances and been LESS than impressed, but I gave her one more chance, and I'm glad I did. This book starts weak, the writing is passable but entertaining, but then the plot gets moving and I don't care about the writing any more, finishes strong on an awful cliffhanger. I MUST read the next book in this series! ...more

Again a first person narrator that I just don't like. Is it her initial stupidity that I don't like, or her whining? I understand characters need to grow and change during a story, but they have to start with some positive stats. This one I got 20 pages in. I don't even know why I had it. ...more
