Ugh! wow, this was disappointing. I feel like I am a pretty indiscriminate lover of genre fiction. After seeing many of my favorite tweens with this in hand and recognizing the quick appeal, I really didn't expect the writing would be soooooooooo bad. I mean, like, to totally create like a believable teen voice, you really, don't, like, totally have to write like a freakin' lame adult trying to be edgy and hip. I wasn't expecting much character development, but even the plot failed to pull me in

James Patterson is a fanatically popular adult author, who I have never read a word of. He has now ventured into the teen market, and I wish that I hadn't read this, either. That being said, The Angel Experiment is extraordinarily odd story of Max and her group of friends. They have escaped from a hellish place called The School which is a lab that runs gruesome testing on humans. The book follows the group as they fight evil and attempt to save the world. It is adventure and science fiction and

Maximum Ride is a girl whose DNA is crossed with avian DNA (angel-like appearance) and who with her band of bird-pals, has escaped the shadowy School that experimented on them and now lives together in a rural house.
The book opens with a chase scene and pretty much that's what happens throughout the book. Max and her friend are chased, punched, jumped on, and kidnapped by werewolf-like servants of the School called Erasers. One particular Eraser, Ari, keeps showing up at inopportune mo ...more

I've never read a book by James Patterson, so I'm not sure if his style in his adult books is as quick to read as this book. The chapters were short, which made for a fast, exciting read. I'm living in fear that I accidentally read book 2 in this series first (is there a book just called "Maximum Ride"?) Also, my mother, who is a fan of James Patterson, read the book description and thought she might have read this one. According to the author's note, this story grew out of characters mentioned

This book was very interesting, especially from a literary perspective. The author was very thorough in using several different literary techniques in this book, most notably foreshadowing and the Deus ex Machina. I was surprised by how well the author could incorporate this device (the Deus ex Machina particularly) into the story, up to the point of three or four times per page. Outstanding.

I liked this book - it was action packed and interesting. I read it for a book discussion at work. I don't know if I'll read the rest of the books in the series but I will recommend this to others, espeically teens interestedin genetic engineering and science.

In another series of James Patterson's - Alex Cross - he usually wraps up his story and then gives you a teeny taste of the next book. However, in this one he kind of left me hanging to get me to read #2 - plus, they print the first chapter of the next book in this edition. Sneaky.
