Exquisite, sharp and beautiful.
I loved this even more than the first book in the series. The first one was about gods and fate of the world and I was awed but maybe not fully absorbed. Geta an extra point for really good portrayal of a blind POV character. The first book of this series focussed on power and enslavement. This one is more about forgiveness. Also forbidden love, and in a sense miscegenation. I like the frame stories that N.K. comes up with for her 1st person perspective (which, again, is quite well done and not distracting). Lots of magic, lots of different locations, characters from teh first book remain true to their natures. We see a lot more of the magical go

Really great sequel, told from a completely different viewpoint from the first book in the series. I'm looking forward to the third.
