Andy Weir really loves science. HE JUST REALLY LOVES IT. His enthusiasm for it is what makes his books readable. I don't love science, and I barely understand what he's describing, but he's just so darn excited about it that I'm willing to go along. This book starts out with a very "The Martian Part Deux" vibe, but then a little ways in it takes a real swerve, and that's when it got really fun.

Without a doubt the best book I've read so far this year. Andy Weir blew me away with this one. I loved "The Martian" but thought "Artemis" was only okay, so was a bit hesitant to start this one, but oh wow! I was hooked from the very start, and listened to it at every chance I got. The audiobook was narrated by Ray Porter who did an amazing job.

What I liked: humor; Rocky learning sarcasm; friendship, grudging collegial respect; geoengineering global warming.
What I didn’t like: I mean, I’m smart. I’m postgraduate degree educated, I’m good with my hands, I’m a reasonably good bench researcher, etc etc; and the feats of brilliance that the heroes of Andy Weir’s books have, and their multidisciplinary awesomeness makes ...more
