Read it a million years ago but liked it.
I love, love this book. It's slow and could be considered boring, but I loved the way it painted a picture of a community, through all their voices, through a lens of time. It could be confusing for that, but I just found it more compelling. I couldn't finish it on the reread, though, because near the end, I couldn't bear to read the horrible tragedy being recalled. I might skip that part, though, and finish reading it sometime soon, because it is quite lovely.

This is a really beautiful and quiet book. It's the story of an order of contemplative nuns in England, but don't let that scare you away like it almost did me. The characters are worth spending the time with and the whole vibe of the book makes you feel you've just had a refreshing meditation. Highly recommended.

1960s book about an English Benedictine community of nuns. A case of right book at the right time for me: I esp related to the new Abbess as she took on responsibility she wasn’t expecting. Such a good book on spirituality too.
