I reread it to find certain scenes I remembered. I thought there was a recipe in here somewhere, but there's not much actual cooking info. There was a fair amount I had forgotten about. McKinley ranks as a favorite, possibly, in a list constantly in flux, THE favorite author I have. Really gorgeous chemistry and world building. It was, if I may say it, “genre fiction” at its best: “urban fantasy” only in its elements. Dark, terrifying, and hopeful, without forced resolution or concretion. This was a book about people, written with tenderness and love.
