After devouring the first two books in this series, I decided to pause and read this collection of prequel novellas. I was looking forward to meeting Celaena before she was broken by the Endovier death camp, and finding out a bit more about her past. Celaena started out arrogant as always, but she does have good reason to be arrogant, and something about the combination of deadly assassin skills and her love for a frivolous and expensive wardrobe and other fineries makes her always fun and sligh

This one was much better but it was hard to get involved because I knew what the ending was. I'm sort of surprised at how she hasn't figured out who the real bad guy is.

And oh, Sam. I may have said this before, but really seeing that relationship, after getting snippets of it in Throne of Glass, my heart just goes out to her. She has lost more than her share, but uses that loss to forge ahead and remake herself for the future. I love that she is a character with that kind o
