maybe not the right time, or maybe it's just too dated but i didn't like this mary stewart book all that much and especially dislike all the paranormal aspect and the ESP. read it till the end and liked some parts, but really was bored with a lot and (view spoiler)

Even a slightly better than average Mary Stewart is better than most other books...

If someone had told me this was Lois Duncan for grown-ups I would have read it sooner! The main character is a telepath and grew up in an old gothic manor. Stewart pokes fun at Gothics within her own gothic story.
When I met Stewart O'Nan, he mentioned the title of this book. His mother was a Stewart fan, which is where he got his name.
A pleasant enough plane read, but not as enthralling as, say, Kate Morton's contemporary Gothic novels. ...more
