EGAD.
I just assumed I was too chicken for this, but my sister told me to read it, and I listened to it, and EGAD. Wow. Starts out slow, but in a good way. Languid. Sexy. And then the horror creeps in from the corners like mold growing on old damp wallpaper in a house full of . . . SHHHH! I won't spoil it! Early on I said to myself, "Oh, I bet they're all [REDACTED]!" But it turns out that they're actually something SO MUCH WORSE and horrible and unexpected! This pleased me!

Ok now I see why Victor Lavalle blurbed it! What a treat.
This was a slow read for most of the book. Atmospheric, dark and mysterious, but very slow. Then it sprints to the end with wild, weird, and surprising twists.
Intriguing plot, very gothic, fast-paced mystery. This was a nice summer read.

It's probably not fair for me to rate this book. There wasn't anything really wrong with it. It just wasn't my kind of book. Creepy, gory, dark. I should have found out more about it before I decided to read it. That being said, when I did start to think it might not be for me, it kept me interested enough that, rather than quit, I finished it.
