A little too on the nose at times, but still utterly compelling. A satirical page-turner about race and publishing and white fragility.

There is So. Much. Buzz. about this book but honestly? This isn't the great read I'd hoped it'd be.

After a few years of seeing authors called out for not being sensitive enough to the culture/identities of their readers and characters, of watching books be pulled for the same issues, it was only time that this would become the topic of a book. And yes, that part is well done. Who can tell certain stories is an increasingly divisive issue, but this book doesn't look at all the different aspects

This was highly entertaining for a long time and then kind of irksome (mostly when the narrative got really wrapped up in Twitter).

My biggest takeaway about the publishing industry is that writers spend a lot of time doing things that aren’t actually writing. It doesn’t sound like a very appealing lifestyle and seems to have little to do with storytelling.

The author was unlikeable but I did feel I got a look at some of the ways the publishing industry works. I had hoped to like this one better than I did.
