I always snatch up Tana French's new books because I know I'm going to enjoy them, even if the mystery isn't always that difficult (although I'm pretty dense about mysteries so it doesn't take much for me). This is no exception. Michael "Scorcher" Kennedy, who we first met in "Faithful Place" is the main character now, and is assigned the case of a whole family murdered in an isolated partially-completed new housing estate outside Dublin. Of course, as in previous books, Mike has a personal co ...more

The Dublin Murder Squad is back, this time with Mick "Scorcher" Kennedy narrating the investigation of the murder of a seemingly happy family. I liked the chance to see him as more than the arrogant jerk we've seen in other books, and I liked getting inside his head - his need for order and doing things the right way.

As the partners examine the evidence, interview the neighbors and find a suspect, tension develops between the detectives and continues to build until the ending. I was so involved in this book by the end that I had to switch from the audio version to the actual book because I just had to find ou

The mystery in this one was more gripping than the last one, but I never quite clicked with Kennedy as the detective. I guess that's the downside to a new main character in each book. But I still sped through it and had a hard time putting it down!

Another fantastic entry in this series. I know now I've read them out of order, but, no matter. Tana French can do no wrong.
