Danger has come to the Shire Warren. The RaHobbits - timid, quiet beings, usually - will have to face this danger. A perilous journey filled with magic, strange languages, unlikely friendships, companions, mortal danger, and a ring that must be destroyed in the fires of Mordor.

I can't believe I waited so long to read this! I LOVED IT! I saw the movies eons ago and really didn't remember anything about it, except that it was a story about rabbits.
It's such a fun story and I really think it's one that anyone would enjoy.
I blew through this on the last day of vacation and traveling back home, I'll read this again for sure. ...more

Eye surgery at the beginning of January meant that I had to sit at home in the dark for a week, unable to read or watch TV or even use the computer. So I turned to audiobooks. I have never read Watership Down, though I did try. I am still not sure I would have ever read it without listening to it first.

when I first read this back somewhen in grade school, it was one of the only 5-star books I ever experienced as part of my public school curriculum.
as an adult, there are some things about the pacing that seem a little off on this othwise solid read, so 4 stars, even though the last page still wrings tears. or maybe it's not the pacing, but instead the fact that there are NO surprises whatsoever in here: 20 years later, I still remember all of the plot detail ...more
