More like 3.5- the plot got better, the pacing was exciting - I think Oliver did a great job flashing between past and present ( though it didn't really "get" anywhere, if you know what I mean). The book had an overall despairing kind of tone so I can't really say I *enjoyed* reading it, so I feel I can't give this a full 4 stars, but overall, I think it was well done and I'm looking forward to the third installment.
