This novel seems to be slightly obscure in the English-language sci-fi world (the original French version was a best-seller after it came out in France in 1970), which is surprising, because it's a lot of fun: there's fast-moving action, romance, idealistic scientists trying to save humanity from the machinations of cynical politicians, and all the far-fetched futuristic technology that we hope for when we read sci-fi novels.
