A poignant look at how grieving affects a family already on the cusp of other big changes. I couldn't put this book down, it was delicately and honestly written. I loved and sympathized with Fern, Holden, and Sara, but had a little trouble with the mom and dad. I guess as a mom I'd like to think I would have better communication with my teenagers, and react less selfishly in a crisis. ...more

I went into this book blind, but was so impressed with how the author dealt with a difficult subject matter for a middle grade audience. Just a great little book about love, grief, and family.

By far one of the saddest books I have read. I bawled for over half of it and was teary eyed for another quarter. Tore my heart out!
