this book has absolutely nothing in common with the hunger games. sure, there are kids who fight, but the circumstances are entirely different. most of the kids in h.g. have not been trained to fight, they are being forced to fight for the entertainment of the capitol. the main character of h.g. is not a girl who has been honed to kill monsters that attack her community, nor one who has been raised in such a sheltered and specific educational-track focused entirely on fighting that emotions are

Just as I begin getting weary of the glut of dystopian/ post-apocalyptic teen literature flooding the market these days (see my review for X-Isle- I am still mad about Fart Club), along comes a gem in the bucket, and I am reminded why I have enjoyed this genre since *I* was a teen. Fanfuckingtastic. I am LOVING this book, can't believe how great it is and how little I've heard about it. Definitely #1 candidate for the "I loved The Hunger Games and now what should I read?" group.

I am absolutely fascinated about how much dystopian teen fiction is out there right now and I've been trying to read as much of as possible. A lot of it is really bad, but yet there are some that really suck me in. This is definitely part of the latter. I devoured this book and cannot wait for the next installment.
