Deliciously creepy! Reminds me of the books that I used to read in 4th-5th grade with one eye closed (to keep from being too scared). In the author's note he cites Something Wicked This Way Comes and The Secret Garden as influences, and, well, that pretty much sums it up!

A Victorian ghost story about Molly and Kip, who travel from Ireland to work as servants at a creepy, crumbling English manor house. The spine-chilling mood that Auxier creates is wonderfully mysterious, and a strange tree and muddy footprints make Molly suspicious of what is happening in the strange house. If you like a book that is a little unsettling, this is the book for you!

Fantastically written and freaking terrifying. I can't read scary books so although I applaud his ability, the unique and scary story, the interesting characterization and dialogue, and the lovely themes and motifs and less than cliche food for thought, I cannot read his other scary works. I guess really good children's horror. But like seriously. No thank you!
