Maud thought she was saved from the Barbary Asylum for Orphans when she was adopted by the wealthy Hawthorne sisters. My 10 year old niece and I both enjoyed this story of an outspoken orphan (is there any other kind?) yearning for a place where she can belong.

It is a new twist on the orphan gets adopted theme, but parts just did not hold me. Nice ending.
