[2005 review.] This definitely has a different tone from most of the other Chrestomanci books, being set in a different country in the same universe, but I really enjoyed it -- much more than Witch Week, the other non-Chrestomanci-castle black sheep of the series. The idea of family as magical entity, introduced in Charmed Life, gets spotlighted here, and it's both interesting and comforting.
