Is nobody writing standalone novels anymore? I didn't realize this was the beginning of a series until I was halfway through, and I'm not sure I'm prepared to take on a full set of four (especially on top of the several other series I'm already enmeshed in). It showed a bit at the end, which was rather shockingly perfunctory and rushed, and which resolved almost none of the plot, because of course there are three more books to do that. I am reviewing the audio version of this book. First of all, I am not too much of a fantasy reader but I'm always game to give a book a chance. I was very impressed by the narrator's interpretation of Maura and her sisters. The conversations between the sisters sounded so REAL and I got a kick out of their interactions. Oddly, I think I may have missed some of the nuance of Aglionby boy characters for the same reason. For example, Ronin's voice just turned me off, and I never connected with him
