I am reviewing the audio version of this book. First of all, I am not too much of a fantasy reader but I'm always game to give a book a chance. I was very impressed by the narrator's interpretation of Maura and her sisters. The conversations between the sisters sounded so REAL and I got a kick out of their interactions. Oddly, I think I may have missed some of the nuance of Aglionby boy characters for the same reason. For example, Ronin's voice just turned me off, and I never connected with him

Not a bad book but I don't get the hype. The plot was interesting, but I didn't like the boys much, especially Adam and Ronan, neither deserved a friend like Gansey. They all needed a good shrink. But I liked Blue and her family, they were funny. Just like Mallory.

The slow pace, and the all-set-up-and-no-conclusion that comes with being the first book in a series left me intrigued but frustrated. For fans of characters and lush descriptions, not for those (like me) lacking patience. As rich and slow as molasses.

Really good and unique story of psychics, town and gown stresses, and really clear individual characters. Also the author is a great writer.
