Being a huge fan of Jennifer Nielsen's Ascendance Trilogy, I could not wait to get my hands on this new book. Unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations.
Mark of the Thief had everything I was looking for in a book: ancient Rome, a scrappy hero, magic, and mythical beasts. However, I found the story tedious. Maybe it's just because it is historical fiction/fantasy and not just fantasy, but I didn't like this one as well as THE FALSE PRINCE.
