I picked this book out of Tudor's collection of Nigerian selections. It's the story of a warrior, Okonkwo, ashamed of his father, who tries to be tough without any of his father's gentleness.

Okonkwo is chosen to look after a youth who enters the tribe as a sort of tribute from another village; after three years, the youth has become like a son to Okonkwo, and a good older brother for his oldest son. I used to wonder how Ezinma is like if she would grow. She deserved a novel of her own. But that is exactly the hard truth of the novel. You loved an ogbanje of your own, you cherished all you have in the ways of your fathers, and then those fundamental things of your standing ground started to shake.
