This was beautifully written and had some rather interesting things to say about self-doubt, trust, and the challenges amidst relationships...but all of that was more or less ruined by the Terrible Mistake that the entire plot pivots around.

i really enjoyed it, a lovely story ... but there is a but, this felt like a re-telling, like the stories my grandmother would tell us, different worlds and different creations, but like them an exotic fairytale that was all about the story and not about the people. i loved the story but except for Kamala, didn't care for anyone else. The ending could have been quite the opposite of what it was and i still would have been ok with it and liked the story as much. ...more

Fantastic story with such incredibly rich language. The myths and descriptions of the Otherworld were some of my favorite parts of the book. I wanted to dive in and live in the Night Bazaar after reading about it!! Mysterious and captivating characters who I couldn't help but emphasize with, and I especially appreciated the relationship between Maya and her sister. Absolutely worth checking out! ...more

This book has everything. I loved it. Definitely for readers a bit older than the Aru Shah series. Also, I love any books that can weave language, imagery, and light.
