Based on what I've been reading lately, some folks recommended this book to me, since it followed some of the same tropes as the other books. It looked and sounded interesting, and I was on a buying kick, so it wound up in my to-read pile. I might have been expecting too much out of it, but I was disappointed with the story.

In which a most foul torturer is the kindest and most reasonable fellow ever to survive amidst a sea of political conniving, preparation for war, plotting (much involving his own master) and his own horrific injuries.
I have read this series in quite the wrong order, which means I already know that every single character, whose fates appear so different, is tied together in a plot so elaborate and deep that it twists every single one of them into a splendid epic.
