The Little Stranger is a ghost story—or is it?—and a story about one knowing his and her place in society. There are many frightening scenes and the build up is slow and steady with big pay offs. It deals with class and isolation much like Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived in the Castle. Highly recommended.

Very traditional ghost story a la Henry James. I loved the relationship between the doctor and Caroline, and I was genuinely creeped out at times. Is it wrong that I really wanted a twist ending?

I liked this book, although it was definitely "up and down" on the interest level for me. Still, an overall good read.

so far I'm, halfway through this reeeealllly long and slow-reading book, and a lot of things have happened, but mostly they seem inconsequential. So unless it's leading up to something bigger, I'll be annoyed that this woman didn't have a better editor.
