"Revolutionary or gimmicky?" (445) Revolutionary is definitely strong, but incredibly ambitious and generally successful, although perhaps a bit preachy at the end. I can't imagine how they managed to film this and what must be lost, and though I enjoyed the book I didn't love it so much that I can't bear to watch the movie (which is true of most of my favorites.)

This books is really beautiful. I'm surprised there are any really new narrative structures yet, but I think this really is something new. I hesitated to read it because I thought that, with 5 separate stories of all different genres, it wasn't possible they could all be interesting, but they were. I loved watching the themes emerge and seeing how he showed history to be not a linear progression but the same patterns occurring in different settings.
