One of the most remarkable and charming books I've ever read. Through postcards and letters you come to know Griffin, an artist living in a big city, and Sabine, a young woman on a distant island, who have never met in person. A beautiful look into another world of two artists, although a bit indulgent on the part of the author. Two people start to correspond, one a depressed artist in London, one an exotic woman living on an island who designs stamps and has the power to see the man's drawings. The ending of the story leaves you hanging so I can't wait till the next book comes from the library! ...more

Okay, the first G&S book is really something, and it ends PERFECTLY. To have sequels is just wrong, but I own them for the beautiful art. Curse you, Nick Bantock.

Without ever meeting in person, the artists Griffin and Sabine recieve notes from each other. The art is beautiful and the story, fantastical.

A bit sappy of a story, really, but the illustrations are just gorgeous. And ridiculous as it seems, I still want to read the next one.
