Once there was a strange house. Then a man named Navidson who lived in the house with his family made a film about the house. Then a blind man named Zampano wrote a dissertation about the film about the house. Then a guy named Johnny Truant found the manuscript about the film about the house. What you end up reading is the manuscript with Johnny's notes, complete with Zampano's footnotes and other additional material in the back.

I had heard a lot about this book, often with it appearing on lists

I'm sorry. I tried. I really did. But ...

I've read a number of reviews that say this is an INTENSE book, and if you don't get it, it means you didn't try hard enough. Cons: Ridiculously erudite/snobbish, dirty, confusing, gimmicky/meaningless things thrown in for cult follo

I literally could not put this down, despite the fact that it sent perpetual shivers down my spine while reading it. It is truly like no other book I've ever read and I doubt Danielewski will ever be able to top it. (I didn't even get past the second page in his overly pretentious, gimmicky second book). ...more

I thought the premise of this book was very interesting and creative, but sometimes it read like a text book. It was tedious in some places but picked up again right before I lost interest.
