This was the second best of the Malazan books so far (behind Deadhouse Gates, where I loved the Chain of Dogs storyline). Sprawling story across a continent, armies fighting and moving about realistically (I think), tons of POV characters, most interesting. Backstory ranging hundreds of thousands of years, gradually revealed. Some very poignant sections. Good foreshadowing/prophecies.
