THE GOOD: the pacing is spot-on, and the exposition fits naturally into the story, the story is fascinating, and the details are fresh and new and sometimes disturbing.
But oh! all is not well in dystopialand, boys and girls!
THE BAD: The characters are idiots (the evil are 100% EVIL and the good are 100% GOOD ... yawn) and the characterization is so freaking ham-fisted I wanted to hurl.

3.5 stars. The story started off fairly strong, but as the book progressed the plot became less about action and more about politics, which just isn't my thing. I never quite understood where the protagonist stood or what motivated her actions. I think the first third was really great, and I'd love to see Kitty back in the city in the next book, where things were the most interesting.
