The first in the most freakin' huge and addictive fantasy series of all time.
Reread (listened to audiobook) 2023: I understand the changes that they've made for the series, because wow is this a slow moving book. I'm not knocking in it in any way, its still a favorite, but he really does show you all the travels and how often they stopped and what they ate, and it's a LOT. Addictive beginning to the Wheel of Time series, with amazing world building and characters. Certain men and women can tap into the power, but the men's side is tainted, and they will eventually be driven mad with power. Rand is one of those men. Can he overcome the taint and unite his world?
I gave up on this series after book nine, and then Robert Jordan went and died anyways after dragging the story to a near standstill, but the first 5-6 volumes are amazing. ...more

I read this years ago and remember being unimpressed. There was a lot of hype and nothing in the book led me to believe even a bit of it. The writing was simple at best, the characters unimpressive, and generally felt like a really basic fantasy series. I just never understood why it got the following it did.

I liked the "intro" to this series that focused on the Aes Sedai, so now I've restarted reading the series again. I'll
be done with this book very soon and then will search for book 2. ...more

There was a lot that I did not remember from when I read this a few years ago.

Classic entry to a classic heroic adventure
... and doesn’t fade with time. I haven’t read this book in years, but had fond memories of it.
And it is a good, solid, classic heroic fantasy adventure; and almost self-contained in itself if are willing to misread the ending and skip a few lines.
But the hero has been called to action and almost the entire book is about his adventures trying to free himself of the call.
