If I could give it 10 stars, I would. I started this thinking I wasn't going to like it. I was completely wrong.
I loved it. It was one of the best books I have ever read. A wonderful story, beautifully written from a child's perspective. I highly recommend it to anyone.

I read this because it was recommended by a friend. I enjoyed parts of it, but overall - not so much.

It’s narrated by 11 year old Reuben, who’s brother escapes from jail while on trial for killing 2 boys. Reuben’s father and sister (Swede - who is very similar to Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird) travel the plains in search of Davy. i can absolutley see why critics would go wild for this book. the narrative was different told from the perspective of a young boy. the story was intriguing. however, there were so many storys going on...the sister who is a writer and her tail weaving, the back sotires on every character the family met,it all became annoyingly distracting to me. i just wanted to scream get back to the main story!! in the end it felt too much like the lovely bones, sad haunting done that been there. just did not do ...more

I thought this was a very well written book. Especially liked it since it was a MN author. The spiritualness that ran through the book was very thought provoking. But, although necessary for the storyline, I did get bored with the cowboy/western undertoes. I was also confused at the end on how it all happened, but still very much liked the book.

I did enjoy this book. It just has some slow parts that made it hard to get through, but once you get to the end it seems to pick up pace. I would rate it somewhere between 3 and 4 stars.

A simple book and quick read with surprising depth. Biblical allegories, life lessons, family dynamics...all to be scooped up for further examination.
