As I said in my very first status update, this book is deliciously creepy. It's definitely about a girl who eats boys who try to get romantical with her, not out of self defense so much as it just makes her really hangry, so this book is not for everyone. That said, it's a fairly quiet book, with a lot of time spent with Maren trying to figure out what to do with herself after her mom leaves and reflections on her victims.

Every time someone starts to get affectionate towards Maren, she eats them. She can't help it. Ever since Maren ate her babysitter, her mother has moved her around to different cities to escape the aftermath. Eventually it becomes too much and Maren is abandoned - she must figure her affliction out for herself.

This book is quietly weird and creepy as you might imagine from the premise. It gives you a constant dread of everything for Maren, but it's both through fear of the men she encounters, an

My issue with this book is that I wanted so hard to get into it, but I just couldn't get over "details." I read fantasy, and I read science fiction, and I believe that the next Spare Oom is right around the corner. Yet, for some reason, I just couldn't get past the bones. How do they eat them? Do they digest them? How is there not more of a mess? How can you fit that much in your stomach?
I know, I know - I'm supposed to "suspend disbelief." But I couldn't, so I just couldn't love this book.

Twisted, demented, wrong on so many levels, and completely amazing. This book had been on my radar for months, and it was worth the wait. I read it in one sitting, straight through, and I will never trust girls who wear all black and love books again. It's as if Sweet 16 and American Horror Story gave birth to a coming of age story. ...more

This book dealt with cannibalism. I thought it was really gross, but really liked it. Maren starts her "secret" at 2 years of age when her mom finds a playmate's eardrum in her mouth. Her problem just escalates until on her 16th birthday, her mom abandons her. She literally eats her way thru the book, looking for why she is this way. Then she meets Lee who understands her. ...more

A very weird premise and I'm not sure how I feel about the ending, but I really liked the voice of the main character and the journey she took. ...more
