For the drama amoung ToG fandom these days.*sighs* I can tell I continue this series because I freakin WANT TO KNOW arc of the characters. How interesting their are, I want to experience it. Characters are the most important things to me. But if the arc of the characters gone into OOC and was handled in disrespectful way just for the sake of solving the romance problem, how can I gone through and finish this?

That's right! I found a way around the system! Observe my badassery!

This book was just so awesome! So many times, I had to take a minute, squeeze my eyes shut, and just absorb eveyrthing. I died a little with every passing chapter, and every time I didn't think it could get any more intense, I was proven wrong!
This entire series, Queen of Shadows particularly, knows how to elicit the feels!
It's so much fun and it easily scored a position on my favorites shelf!

Queen of Shadows was long, tedious and at times irritating read for me. And it could've been at least two hundred pages shorter. Most of the times, I couldn't care less for the characters or events in this series. I was never really invested in it. I couldn't connect to any of the characters - and that there was many of them. Well, that sure was an adventure. Aedion, rescued. Arobynn Hamel, dead. The King of Adarlan, dead. Dorian, saved. The glass castle, dead and gone for good! This really was such an adventure.

I don't even know where to begin. I guess I'll start with what I thought was brilliant. I loved how fast paced this book felt, despite the length. I don't even know where to begin. I guess I'll start with what I thought was brilliant. I loved how fast paced this book felt, despite the length. There were some scenes that slowed the pace a little, but I'm left feeling like a lot was covered throughout this book. Many of the scenes were so important and exciting. Sarah J Maas has done a fantastic job to create a story that can have so many crucial plot lines in just one book alone. You read some books and feel that the story begins milking plot lines as there is not much room to venture, but that most definitely is not the case with this series. The character development, particularly Manon, was fantastic. I also love that the character development throughout this book was slow, but we could always clearly see the changes as they were happening.

I have become so invested in Aelin, it has become a little silly. At first I was sad to mourn the loss of Celaena, but then I realized despite Aelin saying 'Celaena' is dead, I still see Celaena in Aelin. You cannot live ten years of your life and not let that impact your personality or thought process. For me, Celaena was a part of Aelin, and Aelin is the full. And I love Aelin. She tries to think of the greater good, for the people rather than herself. I think she can really become a wonderful ruler, she perhaps just needs to lose a bit of her feisty and reckless behavior (although I do love that side of her!)

Another character I came to love during this book was Lysandra. It has been a while since I have become so emotionally invested in a character. Every scene of hers had me gushing or screaming or weeping. In my mind, she is such a beautiful, caring, selfless woman who has endured so much and yet, despite this, has been able to walk out to the other side with a sense of humor. Sarah J Maas creates such gorgeous characters who go through such hard times but still remain human. As a result, we come to really respond emotionally to their battles throughout these books, as in certain ways, they are relate-able. They are characters who have the unconscious and unwavering need to protect their friends, the desire to be loved and held, the bravery and strength to do the right thing, and support and loyalty from their friends. These characters really are touching to read about.

Now, I guess since I have praised this book to no end, perhaps I should start discussing some of the negatives. As you can tell, I did love this book, but I do understand this was not a perfect book. There were quite a few blindingly painful discontinuities between this book and its predecessors. For one, which I'm sure many people discuss when reviewing this book, is the sudden and blatant character change of Chaol Westfall. I have not placed Chaol on a pedestal, I know he was always closed minded and self-righteous, but he was going through some beautiful character development. The fact that his love for Celaena was opening his mind, was actually incredibly moving. Yet right at the beginning of this book he was saying things that contradicted all of that development, and I almost felt cheated. I became so invested in this flawed character becoming such an amazing person, and then he just reverted back again. Very frustrating, and very disappointing. Sarah J Maas had an amazingly unique and interesting character there, and he was completely wasted in this book. I look forward to his own book that is to be released this year.

There was also another character who I felt was wasted in this book. That character was Arobynn Hamel. He was a horrible human being, and I was disgusted by his character. But there was such a build up of this evil, powerful man who ended so suddenly. We did not even get to see him fight! Or really do anything, for that matter. I actually thought he would become the overall antagonist, that's how built up he was in my mind. I guess perhaps Sarah J Maas was trying to portray a man who seemed to have unlimited power, but was really just a scheming, inhumane pervert, who was not anywhere near as powerful as he seemed. This is just another example of the brilliant characters throughout this series. You could spend hours trying to figure them out and still not completely understand who they are.

Another dislike I had for this book, was Rowan. I think his character is, if I'm honest, boring. He fits this stereotype of the perfect partner for the princess. When I picture those two standing together, they look perfect, like something from a fairy tale. Now I do love fairy tails, but in this series, it feels very anti-climactic. In a series with such raw honesty, why is Aelin with someone so unrealistic and bland? In a series filled with characters bursting with personality, the male love interest really lacks this much personality? But as long as Aelin is happy, I am happy.

I cannot wait to start Empire of Storms. Where this story will go, I really am not sure, but I'm definitely excited to see! ...more

So for once I'm rating this with a 4.5 star rating because hey re-reading Heir of Fire opened my eyes to what an asshole Rowan is oh and did I mention Sarah made sure that Chaol and Celaena wouldn't be a ship anymore and that Lysandra was there to be Chaol's new love-interest because you know, fuck with the Chaolena shippers, yeah fuck them right for the sake of making Celaena fall in love with Rowan wifebeater. And thank goodness for Manon seriously yeah her story and Chaol's where the only ones I was interested in during this re-read, because you know 'Aelin' denies the existence of Celaena who was part of her nope according to 'Aelin' she's dead. Really? Really? Celaena is a part of you dumbass you can't just act like that Celaena was never there and automatically say that just because you accept that you're queen now that Celaena was nothing to that what you and Chaol went through was nothing. You idiot!

Yeah upon this re-read I noticed how much of a liar Aelin was because she lies to everyone, oh and she covers up her lovely bloodoath that she made to Rowan, yep. The only saving grace once again was Manon yeah really liking Manon right now because hey, she seemed to be the only one with something interesting happening and yeah I'd rather focus on her then Aelin and Rowan. And maybe focus more on Chaol too but you know fuck Aelin.
