What is this book just done to me? Let me tell you… at first, it kinda slow. I even want to give it 3 stars for nothing-exciting-happen-story when Feyre is at Spring Court. But.. BUT around 80% and go on, it become better and better and Gosh… the Climax scene ruin me! The climax just lift up all the whole book for me. It’s AMAZING and wrench my heart I almost cry.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is a new adult fantasy novel set in the land of Prythian, predominantly occupied by fae and faeries, with a small area at the bottom bordered off for humans. The wall is all that separates the mostly poor human civilization from the strong and magical beings on the other side. One afternoon when Feyre, an independent young woman, is hunting in the forest, she kills what she believes to be an wolf. However, it is later revealed that this was no ordinary wolf, but rathe A Court of Thorns and Roses is a new adult fantasy novel set in the land of Prythian, predominantly occupied by fae and faeries, with a small area at the bottom bordered off for humans. The wall is all that separates the mostly poor human civilization from the strong and magical beings on the other side. One afternoon when Feyre, an independent young woman, is hunting in the forest, she kills what she believes to be an wolf. However, it is later revealed that this was no ordinary wolf, but rather a High Fae. The punishment for a human who kills a fae is a life for a life, and Feyre is subsequently given two options: to be killed right there before her family, or live out the rest of her life in the fae world.

Before I really knew much about this book, I knew it was a claimed 'Beauty and the Beast' retelling. Now perhaps my passion for this fairy tale, about looking past scary appearances to see the gentleness inside, slightly effected my reading experience of this book. I think Sarah J Maas missed the whole point. You cannot tell 'Beauty and the Beast' with a handsome, muscly blonde haired man. So this is not a 'Beauty and the Beast' retelling, but rather a story that uses the same plot line of imprisonment and a curse. Whilst a little unoriginal in terms of plot, this story was rather captivating and interesting.

I was excited to experience another world created by the imaginative Maas once again. This world was built rather well, and as Feyre knew as little as we did about the world behind the wall, we got to learn about it side by side with her. The prejudice from fae to humans was an interesting aspect to explore, and it was developed effectively. It was honestly, and quite sadly, a realistic mindset for many of the fae to have against humans. Maas built her world to cover this topic perfectly. I highly enjoyed adventuring through this world alongside Feyre and seeing the different creatures that existed in Prythian, however a little more description would have enabled better imagery. If I am honest, I had no idea what some of the creatures looked like (but this was most likely my own shortfall!) I also really enjoyed the idea of all the different courts, and I am excited to venture through more of the courts in the sequel. Though I do admit I was slightly confused about the difference between High Fae, fae and faeries. I would have liked for this to have been explained clearer, but again this may have been my own shortcoming.

Whilst the world Maas created sucked me in completely, I cannot help but feel that the characters had less of an effect on me. Feyre was a character that I had difficulty understanding. At points she was presented as an intelligent, calculating and calm young woman who would keep a level head in times of strife. However in some scenes, she made silly decisions that she had been told on multiple occasions not to make. I found it rather confusing, like I had difficulty pin pointing exactly who Feyre was. I also feel the writing style contributed to my distance from Feyre as a character, as I feel Maas's style is a bit too robotic for first person. Often things felt conveniently listed off, which I felt fit the third person writing in her previous series, Throne of Glass, but not so well for first person. I also felt there were some thoughts of Feyre's that were rather repetitive. Now do not get me wrong, Maas's writing was still a pleasure to read. The following two lines absolutely moved me:

"Never feel guilty for doing the things that bring you joy."

"Be glad of your human heart, Feyre. Pity those who don't feel anything at all."

Goose bumps people! Anyway, in terms of other characters, I rather liked Lucien and Rhysand. Maas definitely has some interesting characters there that I do hope we get to know more over this trilogy. Tamlin was, whilst a lovely man, rather boring to read about. He also sometimes behaved in ways I was not completely on board with, but he was a kind, almost simple character.

Overall I found this book to be entertaining and an enjoyable read. By the looks of the hype over A Court of Mist and Fury, I am in for an absolutely brilliant ride. If I'm honest, I cannot wait. ...more

Soo..how do I start this first off the reviews ive gotten from other people didn't disapoint..BUT I was not ready for the level of angst that happened I cant tell you how much I was creying and how much I was angered by Rhys taking advantage of Feyre..I wanted to throw the book at the wall so many times but I kept holding onto to the bit of hope that Tam and Feyre would end up together happily through the whole chaos..Ive been through this kind of angst with my other series embrace by JessicaShr ...more

So f*cking awesome. This is the real shite. It's bloody breathtaking. I'm crying, and right now I feel all ragey and mopey and cheesy and stuff. I woke up at 4 a.m. in the morning to finish this. And it's really really worth it. This is the best book I've ever read this year, so far.

I'm sorry I can't write a proper review because Rhysand probably shattered my brainz and I'm very emotional because how can I not be emotional? This book is awesomesauce. Great world building, awesome characterisation. There wasn't a dull moment in here. Nice twists.
I'm waiting for the second and third book (anything but patient, of course)

I had to finish this today I just had to only problem is the sequel hasn't got a name yet and it won't be out until 2016...Also technically this book won't be out until May 5th so sorry to anyone who hasn't had a chance to read this gem of a book yet.
